In a world where most solutions are now digital, mobile applications have become the go-to digital platform for implementing solutions. Due to this, a large focus has been placed on mobile application development. With a corresponding increase in the number of mobile apps offering similar solutions, people now look out for the app with the best user experience. To be on the winning side of the competition, every organization that offers solutions or services via mobile applications needs to pay diligent attention to user experience in the development of the apps. In this article, I’ll be making some suggestions on how to improve user experience in the development of mobile apps using React Native JS programming language.

One of the first things that people look out for when downloading an app from the store is the size of the app. If the size of the mobile application is unreasonably large, it’s a turn-off for most users and some people may not download the app for this simple reason. To ensure that this does not happen to your most beloved app as a developer you can avoid using third party packages. These packages are third party codes accessible for use by the developer and can add extra weight to the application and in turn increase the size of the app in use. Hence, a good practice would be to avoid using these packages as except when absolutely necessary.

Another practice that can significantly help user experience is not keeping unnecessary images on the app during development. Rather, a majority of images used on the app can be kept on an external server and fetched via API. The images can also be kept in a CDN which makes the images lighter and load up faster on the app. These little additions can make a significant on the overall user experience of a mobile app.

When users are interacting with forms on a mobile app, the process can be cumbersome but there are few things that can be done to improve the user experience in this regard. For example, the text input fields in a form should be configured properly by adding a focus on the first field of a form automatically. Also, placeholder text should also be included as an example of the expected data format in the input fields. In addition to that, users generally find it easier to fill the form when the keyboard type that pops up is configured to the type of data that is to be entered. For example, when the user wants to enter a pin, the number keyboard type is what should be shown. These little things improve the overall user experience as it regards forms on mobile apps.

Finally, when designing a mobile app, it is important that the tappable areas on the app are big enough for the user’s fingers. On mobile phones it’s hard to be very precise when pressing buttons. One must make sure all interactive elements are reasonably large.
